Subterfuge originated as a project between Boris Stojkovski and Josh Waddle in early 2020 at Bowling Green, OH. Boris and Josh met in college in 2019 and quickly connected over their mutual love for metal and instruments. Both being primarily guitarists, they started sharing their own original riffs and ultimately decided on starting a music project together, one planned to eventually go public without a specific timeline. They both wanted to create masterpieces, ones which include glimpses of their combined influences while differing from what has already been released by hundreds of artists. As Boris moved back to Columbus and Josh found himself in Toledo, they continued to work together on the project despite the physical distance between the two. Over the next 3 years, they passively sought a vocalist and a drummer while continuing to write new material. During this time, many of the tracks on Subterfuge's upcoming debut album were born. Tracks like Sardonic, Paralysis, and Fragments of the Hive are almost unchanged since they were originally written by the duo, while Titans has seen many changes while still holding its original version's roots. Josh had to drop out of the project in 2023 due to personal reasons, but the duo has remained close to this day. At this point, Boris decided to actively begin searching for new members near his new home in Columbus. By the end of the year, he had met Preston Rhoades and Chris Jewell, both on the same day, who would become permanent members of the band in January 2024. They continued writing new material, as the trio wanted to skip the EP and release a full-length album from the start, writing several more pieces while searching for a second guitarist and a vocalist. Shea Flowers joined Subterfuge in Spring 2024, but departed several months later due to creative differences. As the original trio was unable to find a suitable vocalist, they opted in for Boris to take the frontman role, becoming the vocalist and currently only guitarist in the band. As Subterfuge was ready to begin recording their material in the studio, Boris met Gino "Bambino" Matheson in May 2024 and began the studio process. Although an intense process with a lot of new lessons and experiences for the trio, they refused to cut any corners and worked closely with Gino in order to create the best product they could possibly put out into the public. On July 5th 2024, Subterfuge released their debut track, Fragments of the Hive, which also serves as the title track for their upcoming album. On December 19th 2024, Subterfuge released their second track, Abyssal Whispers. A different style of song from Fragments of the Hive, the trio has already begun showcasing their ability to write a variety of styles, giving a glimpse of what may come with their upcoming debut album. Subterfuge is headed back into the studio in February 2025 to wrap up their album, with a planned release date of April 2025.

Band Members:

Boris Stojkovski - Vocals & Guitar
Born and raised in Skopje, Macedonia, Boris moved to the US at the age of 15 and eventually went on to serve in the Army National Guard. Being raised on bands such as Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Iron Maiden, and the Sex Pistols, Boris developed a deep interest in music and guitars early on in his life. As he grew older, he began discovering other bands such as Avenged Sevenfold, Trivium, and Slipknot, which would ultimately play a role as his influences in writing music and playing the guitar. Individuals like James Hetfield, Synyster Gates, and Matt Heafy significantly added to Boris' playing and writing style, ultimately leading to the core sound of Subterfuge. While primarily a guitarist, Boris' ambition and influences have played a massive role in stepping up to becoming the band's vocalist. While he continues to hone his skills, his present skillset confidently holds its own.

Chris Jewell - Bass
Chris Jewell, or better known by friends and family as CJ, joined Subterfuge in the winter of 2024, quickly securing his place in the band. With a variety of influences such as Duff McKagan, D.D. Verni, and Krist Novoselic, Chris' playing style and energetic approach meshed naturally with Subterfuge's sound.

Preston Rhoades - Drums
Preston joined Subterfuge in the winter of 2024 as the band's drummer after an impressive and intense audition performance. The youngest member of the band, his intense and highly energetic play style has been shaped by the likes of Jay Weinberg, Mario Duplantier, and Ray Luzier. Legends say that Taco Bell is the secret to Preston's powerful drumming.
